Fr. Robert Mathewson, S.J., to Receive Honorary Degree from Santa Clara University
Santa Clara University will present Fr. Robert Mathewson, S.J., with an honorary Doctor of Education degree on June 15 at the university's 162nd undergraduate commencement ceremony in honor of his life’s work in Jesuit secondary education.
Fr. Mathewson’s work includes teaching and administrative leadership at St. Ignatius Preparatory in San Francisco, Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, Loyola High School in Los Angeles, and Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix.
Fr. Mathewson's lasting achievements at Jesuit high schools include the establishment of counseling departments and expansion of financial aid endowments.
A native of Huntington Park, Calif., and a graduate of Loyola High School, Fr. Mathewson entered the Jesuit novitiate at Los Gatos in 1949. He was ordained in 1962.
Gonzaga University has hired Jacob H. Rooksby, JD, PhD, as the new dean of Gonzaga University School of Law. He will start his term on June 1. Rooksby succeeds Dean Jane Korn, who began her tenure in 2011.
