St. Francis Xavier Parish Installs New Pastor

On January 28, the community at St. Francis Xavier Jesuit Parish and School celebrated the installation of Pastor Father George V. Wanser, SJ, by Phoenix Diocese Bishop Thomas Olmsted.

The bilingual Mass featured students from St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and Brophy College Prep, a vibrant, inclusive message from Bishop Olmsted, and joyful songs chosen by Fr. Wanser.

During his remarks, Fr. Wanser said, "I ask you to join me with prayerful appreciation for the blessings which the Lord has in store for us in 2018, as we continue to serve Him with a lively faith as men, women, and kids for others, living out the Gospel of love, and faith which does justice." Father Wanser reminded Mass attendees of their mission to be in service to others, to be just toward others, and to wholeheartedly embrace all who enter the doors of St. Francis Xavier Church.

St. Francis Xavier is a thriving parish and school, currently serving more than 4,000 registered households, and thousands more through varied ministries. St. Francis Xavier Elementary School is the only Jesuit elementary school in Arizona, engaging nearly 650 students each year - pre-K through eighth grade - incorporating Jesuit traditions and Ignatian spirituality. Students are encouraged to be loving, open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, and committed to doing justice.

Beyond education and faith formation, the parish offers nearly 60 varied ministries, collaborates with more than 50 local non-profit entities, and engages nearly 2,000 volunteers each year. Through these partnerships, more than 170 programs, and nearly 30,000 individuals are served.
