Jesuits West Portugal Pilgrimage

Jesuits West sponsored a spiritually enriching Portugal Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima and the renown cities of Porto and Lisbon, May 21-31.  Father Sam Bellino, SJ, and Father John Mossi, SJ, were the spiritual directors for the journey which included daily Masses at Fatima, and visits to significant shrines and cathedrals, as well as the famous baroque Jesuit Church of San Roque, Lisbon.

Under expert tour guides, 31 pilgrims experienced the cultural, historical, and Catholic traditions of Portugal. St. Isabella of Portugal was the special pilgrimage patron whose tomb was visited at the Monastery of St. Clare, Coimbra.  The city of Porto included Port wine tasting followed by a relaxing cruise of the Douro River. In Sintra, the World Heritage royal Pena Palace of Ferdinand II was a unique highlight.  In Lisbon, the tour ended with a visit to an artisan tile factory and then a festive farewell dinner featuring Portuguese Fado music.

Jesuits West is sponsoring two pilgrimages in 2019: April in Paris, April 23 – May 2, and the El Camino De Santiago, Spain, September 30 – October 11, 2019. For more information, visit the Events section of the Jesuits West Province website at www.jesuitswest.org
