Loyola High School of Los Angeles Breaks Ground on New Xavier Center

June 17, 2019 — Loyola High School of Los Angeles, the oldest continually operated educational institution in Southern California, broke ground on June 11 on a new project that will transform the 21-acre campus.

With more than 100 guests attending, Loyola Board Chairman Rick Caruso led the ceremony that kicked off the rebuilding of the Xavier Center, scheduled for completion in late 2020.

“To inspire our students to become future leaders, we must be able to provide them with state-of-the-art facilities that contribute to a thriving educational and spiritual community,” said president Fr. Gregory M. Goethals, SJ (’73). “After years of thoughtful planning, forward-thinking design decisions and very generous support from our donors, the 21st-century Xavier will become a reality.”

The new Xavier building will serve as an enhanced liturgical, educational and special events space for its more than 200 yearly functions. It will include a learning environment with the latest technology, promoting collaboration and innovation.

The 1901 Venice Boulevard $34 million capital campaign, which makes the new Xavier Center possible, will also include a transformation of the front entrance of campus and the creation of a Veterans’ Wall of Honor, honoring past and future Loyola High veterans. [Source: Loyola High]
