Jesuits West Receives Gift from Knights of Columbus Seattle Council 676 for Care of Senior Jesuits

July 10, 2019 — Jesuits West recently received a $50,000 donation from the Knights of Columbus Seattle Council 676 for the senior care of Jesuits in the Province.

The generous donation was presented to the Province by Don Luby, an alumnus of Seattle Preparatory School and Seattle University. Luby has been a longtime supporter of Seattle University and was close friends with Fr. Joe Stocking, SJ, who passed away in 2014, and the Stocking family.

Knights of Columbus Seattle Council 676 members Winslow Hayes — also a Seattle Prep alum — and Mike Donohue were also on hand for the presentation of the gift to Fr. Bob Grimm, SJ, Jesuit Counselor at Seattle University’s Albers School of Business and Economics.

The gift is part of a divestment process of the proceeds from sale of the building that the Knights Council 676 had in Seattle; the council will continue but they are now renting facilities.

Most of the proceeds from the sale will go to trusts to support the council’s work with the poor, but they also made gifts to both the Jesuits and the Christian Brothers.

“Council 676 of the Knights of Columbus has quietly and faithfully served the poor and needy in Seattle in a variety of settings,” said Fr. Grimm. “Many of their members in Seattle were educated by the Jesuits and the Christian Brothers. Their decision to sell their building and utilize those funds to sustain their service to others reflects their lifelong commitment to service in the Church and to those most in need.”

“Their generosity toward us reflects their appreciation of our common mission and their gratitude for the education of some of their members by the Jesuits. Their gift came as a complete surprise, but is gratefully received,” Fr. Grimm said.
